The Treasure of Christ’s Understanding

Christ’s system of moral understanding and direction remained as a treasured store of knowledge about the good and the right, to guide us in being and doing, far up into the twentieth century. It was assumed and represented as knowledge by social and governmental institutions until well into the middle of that century, though by then it had been under attack by a small group of “advanced” thinkers for some time. It may have been dismissed, but to the present day no plausible alternative to it as a basis of individual and social existence has emerged, nothing that even comes close. Today we are, as a culture, in a condition of simple moral drift.
